SJCA statement regarding “spoofed” e-mails — January 2010
Near the end of December 2009 and in early January 2010, an unknown individual “spoofed” our e-mail address to send unsolicited e-mail (“spam”) that appeared to originate from an account on our e-mail server to a large number of recipients worldwide.
The San José Community Alliance condemns these illegal activities and regrets any inconvenience this individual’s actions may have caused you.
We have worked with our Internet service provider to confirm that these e-mails were not sent from our servers and have taken steps to increase the security of our e-mail facilities.
Because our servers were not used, no information managed by SJCA was compromised. Nevertheless, we will continue to review and revise our security and privacy practices.
Thank you for your understanding and best wishes for the new year.
